Greece Sea Temperature in November
Historical 30-year sea surface temperatures across 67 coastlines in Greece for November. Derived from NOAA 0.25° blended satellite and in-situ marine observations.
- Ranges 17.1°C at Saliara (Marble) Beach to 21.4°C at Tsambika Beach.
- 8 of 67 surveyed coastlines are at or above the 21°C swim threshold in November.
- On the national average, the water is above 21°C from 3 Jun to 29 Oct — about 148 days a year.
- 5.8°C cooler than Greece’s August peak of 25.4°C (see August).

In the Aegean Sea, strong dry northerly winds (the Meltemi) in July and August induce localized vertical water mixing and localized upwelling, keeping surface temperatures around 24–25°C despite scorching ambient air temperatures. In contrast, the sheltered southern Ionian and southern Crete reach 26.3–26.8°C.
The November Thermal Lag Advantage
Because seawater has a high specific heat capacity, it acts as a massive thermal battery. Southern European and Mediterranean basins absorb solar energy all summer, reaching maximum heat storage by late August. In November, while air temperatures drop, the water releases heat slowly, which creates sea temperatures that are typically 3°C to 5°C warmer than in June.
