Italy Sea Temperature in November
Historical 30-year sea surface temperatures across 60 coastlines in Italy for November. Derived from NOAA 0.25° blended satellite and in-situ marine observations.
- Ranges 15.6°C at Lido di Venezia to 20.8°C at Spiaggia dei Conigli.
- None of Italy’s 60 surveyed coastlines reach the 21°C swim threshold in November.
- On the national average, the water is above 21°C from 6 Jun to 19 Oct — about 135 days a year.
- 7.5°C cooler than Italy’s August peak of 25.9°C (see August).

View 12-Month Annual Overview →Tyrrhenian Sea Depth vs Northern Adriatic Shelf
The deep Tyrrhenian Sea surrounding Sardinia and western Italy forms a warm solar collector averaging 25.5–26.2°C in August. In contrast, the northern Venetian lagoon and upper Adriatic experience rapid seasonal heating and cooling over shallow sea beds.
The November Thermal Lag Advantage
Because seawater has a high specific heat capacity, it acts as a massive thermal battery. Southern European and Mediterranean basins absorb solar energy all summer, reaching maximum heat storage by late August. In November, while air temperatures drop, the water releases heat slowly, which creates sea temperatures that are typically 3°C to 5°C warmer than in June.
