Poland Sea Temperature in September

Historical 30-year sea surface temperatures across 9 coastlines in Poland for September. Derived from NOAA 0.25° blended satellite and in-situ marine observations.

Climatology Notice: Temperatures represent the 30-year long-term historical average (1991–2020 normal), not a live single-day sensor forecast.
16.3°C

  • Ranges 16.2°C at Kołobrzeg Beach to 16.5°C at Międzyzdroje Beach.
  • No coastline in Poland reaches 21°C in any month — this is wetsuit or cold-water swimming.
  • 2.6°C cooler than Poland’s August peak of 19.0°C (see August).

Baltic Sea Extreme Seasonal Range

The Baltic Sea is a shallow, brackish semi-enclosed basin with low salinity (fed by large river basins) and restricted ocean exchange through the Danish Straits. This causes the widest annual water temperature swing in Europe: warming rapidly from 9.4°C in May to 18.6°C in August, then cooling quickly down to 2–4°C in winter.

Oceanographic Phenomenon:Brackish Semi-Enclosed Basin Dynamics
Thermal Lag Characteristic:Minimal deep thermal lag: the shallow brackish Baltic lacks deep-sea thermal inertia, causing water temperatures to drop precipitously by mid-September (14.5°C).
Peak Bathing Average:August (18.6°C)

The September Thermal Lag Advantage

Because seawater has a high specific heat capacity, it acts as a massive thermal battery. Southern European and Mediterranean basins absorb solar energy all summer, reaching maximum heat storage by late August. In September, while air temperatures drop, the water releases heat slowly, which creates sea temperatures that are typically 3°C to 5°C warmer than in June.
